The Great Dying

Last night while reading I was blown away by the amount of people who were killed by the small pox disease.  Almost 90% of the population was affected. It is crazy to me how one disease can make such a big difference. Throughout many years of being in different types of history classes I have learned about small pox disease but we would just skim past the subject and not really learn about it. I think the idea behind small pox blankets is horrifying. The fact that they would give the small pox blankets to the Native Americans to “thank” them is awful. Those who were affected by the small box disease already used the blankets. The blankets would then infect the Native Americans with the small pox and wipe out their population quickly and effectively. By doing that they wouldn’t look like they meant to infect and kill them.
