Colonial Societies
In the 3 different main colonies that arose from the Columbian Exchange different races and genders live differently. As a women who is from European descent I would want to live in the British Colonies in North America. In all three of the societies I wouldn't have been able to own land and would have been viewed as less than men. However in British colonies I would have been considered a wife and mother and got to stay with my family. In the societies in Brazil families weren't encouraged and women weren't always allowed to stay and live with their family and children. Also in the British colonies my husband would have owned our land versus a noble family or king owning the land, so our family would have more control over our lives. We would also be more free and less attached to our European empire than those civilizations in South America because our goal was to create new settlements with new ideas, while their's was to replicate the same culture and government in their colonies as found in their country. I wouldn't have many rights in any of the cultures, so I would choose the place that would be most prosperous and where we weren't controlled by our European country as much. We would have more personal freedom and there was more emphasis on family and creating a new and unique settlement.
