Colombian Exchange and Conquest of Mexico

I have read about the columbian exchange many times from middle school and freshman year, but I had never heard before about the people dying from hunger. The columbian exchange was an exchange of livestock, ideas, crops, disease, and more between the Europeans and Native Americans which resulted in many natives dying diseases that Europeans were immune to. Apparently during the columbian exchange so many people were so sick that they could not take care of themselves and their families could not take care of them because they were sick also, so people starved to death even before they died of disease. I have never studied much about the Aztec empire, though I thought it was interesting that there was so much information and art documented at that time. This made reading the section more interesting because you could connect what we were reading to what was drawn and said when the events leading up to the conquest of Mexico actually happened.
